Hallway
Shining tiles of reflected florescent lights
just slowly allow a tick of time.
I’ve lost track of
the merry go round
I’ve tread here.
Just waiting for my self made sentence
to run out
I understand the concern
for my miraculous rebirth
from a dying man
to a youthful graduate.
In over a day
I’ve become a senior
to the lost minds
that sedate themselves
in bed, chair, or
the very steps I wander on.
I laugh to myself
which echos to all
around me.
It dawns on me
I’ve listened to my father’s words,
“Walk it off, my son.
Shake it off, my son.
Give a laugh, my son.”
That’s what he said.
Thanks Dad.
Your strength
unknowingly will
help push me
out those sealed doors
for sanity.
